Selected Characters: Body elongate, compressed; dorsal and
anal fins beginning at midbody, confluent with caudal; pelvic fins absent;
scales absent.


class="Normal_0020_0028Web_0029__Char" style=" text-decoration: none">This family is monotypic: it consists of just one species. The Graveldiver
can be up to 15 cm long. It occurs along the Pacific coast of North
America in shallow water, where it burrows among gravel or sand
and is seldom seen except by the occasional clam digger.
